We are saddened to announce the passing of Lyman B. Pope, a great friend and benefactor to the Pope Memorial Library. A loyal library visitor since the 1950s, Mr. Pope became the chief donor for the library's expansion of the historic building in North Conway Village, and the namesake for the library on its reopening in 2022. Since that time, Mr. Pope has remained closely connected to PML through his love of reading, visits to the library, and updates on all the wonderful things that the expansion has enabled the library to do in the community.
Mr. Pope said on the importance of PML:
"Libraries serve other purposes besides just books. They provide a social place for people to go. And it's very important that this library exists here in this old building [...] so that kids growing up can come to the library."
In lieu of flowers, the Pope family encourages donations to an animal shelter or rescue of your choice in memory of Lyman.
