Silent Disco
at the Pope Memorial Library
Saturday, August 10, 2024, 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm
This summer, North Conway will hold its first Silent Disco! Join us in August for dancing at the Library.
The event, which is gaining in popularity around the world, is where people dance to music listened to on wireless headphones. Rather than using a speaker system, music is broadcast via a radio transmitter with the signal being picked up by wireless headphone receivers worn by the participants.
We will have three music stations to choose from for a variety of ages and interests. The event will be held on different floors of the library, and there will be refreshments available.
There will be prizes for best dressed, though dressing for your chosen era is not required, it adds to the fun!
This event is for all ages (12 & under must be accompanied by an adult) and is a substance-free event.
Get your tickets in advance, this unusual event is sure to sell out fast. Headphones are included in the ticket price.
WHAT IS A SILENT DISCO?
A silent disco is an event where people dance to music listened to on wireless headphones. Rather than using a speaker system, music is broadcast via a radio transmitter with the signal being picked up by wireless headphone receivers worn by the participants. Those without the headphones hear no music, giving the effect of a room full of people dancing to nothing.
In the earliest days of silent discos, music was transmitted on a single channel. More channels have been introduced, transmitting different music for different groups and interests all dancing together.
