About the Book

We Chose Resistance, a historical novel set during World War II, weaves together stories of courage, loss, and moral conflict, of people living under Nazi occupation in central France. Although a work of fiction, We Chose Resistance builds on heroic actions taken by everyday citizens during a time of war. The French Resistance, a rag-tag Army, did all it could to disrupt the aims of the Nazi occupation. It built training camps in isolated forests, held secret meetings in the backrooms of houses, and hid those targeted by the enemy in rural chateaux. The network moved people in danger out of France, formed a courier network, posted Resistance flyers to encourage French citizens to resist, and disrupted communication and transport networks favored by Hitler’s armies.
